Brief history of the event .. The Motorcycle Ride for Dad is Canada's biggest annual motorcycle event dedicated to fighting prostate cancer through awareness, research and education. RFD is a non-profit registered charity. The first Ride for Dad took place in Ottawa in 2000 with 75 riders.
In 2010 we will celebrate our 10th anniversary and engines will roar in 25 cities across Canada! Last year in our 1st Manitoba ride, we had 487 riders, raising $69,000. We are expecting over 600 riders this year, shooting for $100,000 locally. Every motorcycle trip involves a stop at Tim's here in Manitoba.
This event is supported and sponsored by Police Services and Associations across Canada. This is a family event that attracts motorcycle enthusiasts. Riders sign up on our website and raise money for the cause prior to the event. All participants will marshal at the Canad Inn Bomber stadium for a spectacular 10 am start, Sat May 29-2010. More that 600 motorcycles will be escorted by Winnipeg Police through the city to our outer limits. That will follow with a poker derby ride to Gimli for a supplied lunch on the Lake Winnipeg shore. Ride back to Winnipeg with more poker derby stops on the way. A reception at Canad Inns with pork on a bun and a live band. Prizes for funds raised and a general raffle to follow. Funds will be used locally to raise awareness and convince people to get checked for prostate cancer; along with research and development in the prostate cancer area.
